Or perhaps you have made the switch away from all propriety operating systems like Microsoft Windows or Mac OS X, and are using a free open source operating system like Ubuntu Linux. “Good for you!”. OpenOffice.org Word Processor program default saves as a (.odt) format that Microsoft Word does not understand. OpenOffice Word Processor has no problem reading Microsoft Word format (.doc). So this short tutorial shows you how to save all your files out of OpenOffice Word Processor as a Microsoft Word format (.doc)

  1. Launch OpenOffice.org Word Processor
  2. From the Tools menu select Options
  3. Now click the + (”plus”) next to Load and Save

  4. Now select General
  5. From the Always save as dropdown menu select Microsoft Word 97/2000/XP
  6. Click OK and your done

From now on your OpenOffice Word Processor will save as Microsoft Word 97/2000/XP (.doc) format.
